Am I Covered By UBER’s Insurance?

Am I Covered By UBER’s InsuranceAm I Covered By UBER’s InsuranceRidesharing services, such as Uber, have significantly grown over the past few years. More and more people now depend on ridesharing services to get around. As such, it is only reasonable to question whether you, as an Uber rider or passenger, are covered in the event of an accident.

By choosing to ride in an Uber, you are placing your life and trust in the hands of your Uber driver. Unfortunately, accidents can occur even if your driver is the safest ridesharing driver in the world. In the event that you get into an accident and become injured while riding in an Uber, you may be covered under Uber’s third-party liability insurance policy. It is important to note that coverage for injuries sustained in an accident while riding as a passenger in an Uber will depend on the circumstances surrounding the accident and the party at fault for causing the accident.

Uber drivers are required to carry their own personal insurance separate from Uber’s third party insurance policy.

However, some personal insurance policies do not always cover injuries and damages when the driver is engaged in rideshare services. So then, how is a rideshare passenger covered? As long as the driver has an applicable insurance policy that meets Uber’s specifications, Uber will cover injuries and damages sustained by the passenger. Uber’s third-party liability insurance coverage will pay up to $1 million in personal injuries and property damage when the Uber driver is at-fault for the accident.

If the Uber driver is not at fault for the accident, then you could pursue the at-fault driver’s car insurance provider for damages by submitting a claim or filing a personal injury lawsuit if the injuries and/or damages are extensive. If the party at fault does not carry insurance or is underinsured, Uber provides uninsured /underinsured insurance coverage. The coverage is up to $1 million, but it only applies under certain circumstances.

If you were involved in an accident while riding in an Uber, trying to figure out who is liable for damages can be confusing. Many factors are taken into account when determining liability and damages. At the Fenstersheib Law Group, we can help assess your claim and determine how to best obtain damages if you injured while riding in an Uber.
